Jyran, which means ‘lost love’ in Persian, is a name symbolic of hope and new beginnings. Inspired from the Northwest Frontier Province, a land of warriors and poets, Jyran – Tandoor Dining & Lounge is designed with celebration and drama in mind.
A combination of 1001 Arabian Nights and a Mughal palace, Jyran is a restaurant born from the imagination of our designer Isabelle Miaja and her love affair with India. The main restaurant interiors are complemented by intriguing influences from palace style windows and an imaginative blend of furnishings in an art-deco inspired dining area. An outdoor lounge is surrounded by water, highlighted by bowls of fire and offers al-fresco seating. An impressive recycled metal elephant sculpture weighing several tonnes is located outdoor as though it were walking on air. The sculpture also creates a dramatic icon that is intended to initiate conversation about the origin of the restaurant’s name, which was inspired by a heart-warming tale of a young boy named Jyran and how his friendship with an elephant taught him the lessons of life.
Jyran’s Chef Shadab Ahmad Qureshi, who comes from the legendary 200-year-old Qureshi family that prides itself as the guardian of the rich legacy of Nawabi cuisine, has perfected the art of cooking in his career spanning over 14 years. The food at Jyran Tandoor Dining & Lounge stands testimony to this and reveals a real mastery of flavours and textures that can be sensed in the delectable Raan Al Jyran - Whole lamb leg marinated with Indian spices and cooked in a clay oven, the Mutton Awadhi Biryani - Saffron flavored rice preparation with lamb, or the exotic Chooza Makhni - Tandoori Chicken cooked in rich tomato gravy. For the vegetarian taste-buds, there are special dishes such as Kofta Subz Bahar - Vegetable and cottage cheese dumpling in a rich sauce of tomato, onion, cashewnut gravy or the luscious Subz Miloni - A mixed vegetable dish cooked to perfection with spinach and carefully chosen spices to create the delicious flavour and aroma. A not-to-be missed dish is the Chef’s recommended dessert, Tabhakh Jamun - Stuffed cottage cheese dumplings stewed in sugar syrup and topped with honey and dry fruits.
